Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday tasked the Ministry of Information and Strategy to enlighten the public against carrying out jungle justice in the state.
The house took the position following a motion moved by Mrs Funmilayo Tejuosho, APC-Mushin I, under matters of urgent public importance.
Tejuosho said that she received a message recently indicating that two women and one man were stripped naked over a fraud-related case.
The lawmaker said the incident was said to have occurred at Shonibare Street in Mushin area of Lagos on Sunday.
“I think the house should condemn this criminal act; no person should take laws into his hands.
The house has passed a law on criminal justice,” she said. She urged the police to live up to its responsibilities by protecting the lives and property of the citizens.
Mr Taiwo Kolawole, the Deputy Speaker, said that there was the need for community policing.
“If there is community police in the society there would not be such criminal acts in the society,” he said.
